My wife has one of these. I've got a Golf R. The Suzuki keeps up with the Golf or even out performs it until you get to long straights. The handling on the Suzuki is superior like driving a kart ! Don't under estimate these little cars.
Well... My sister has the old sport, and I would say that it is way less of a pain to drive than one of my cars. My car is a tuned volvo 944 with a racing clutch that is rated to 1000nm torque and is insanely grippy and the pressure plate is insanely heavy. My car uses 10 liters of fuel every 100km if I am really light on the throttle and if the conditions are perfect, otherwise am I driving at around 12liters/100km My other car however is an original volvo 945 polar ftt, it is easy to drive, quiet and insanely comfortable. I freaking love that car
I still have my 93 SWIFT GT. Still runs great! I would love this new version. But unfortunately for me,Suzuki no longer sells cars in the USA. And it's becoming very difficult to even get parts for the 93!
+Iacuzzi Facundo Well, yeah, that's how it works. Same can be said on the other side *nah, UP looks awful, you just like it*. Some people like it some don't.
Swift is a class above a Vw Up, in every aspect. The Up looks like a refrigerator, especially in white. In the smallest class i will choose the Kia Picanto.
After owning this for half a year, I still think this is a better car over its rivals. The fiesta becomes three cyl, the up gti is not worthy of a match and the polo gti with all the gears I wanted would be much more money. It's the lightest of its class, makes more hp and has better 0-60mph than Suzuki claims. Stock wise, if you throw it hard enough in a corner, the back end rotates and you can just mash the throttle with countersteering, heaps of fun. And with a rear sway bar, semi-slicks, a remap (180bhp) and coilovers, this will eat up all of them for an extra 2k pounds. That's why they sell bucket loads of them in Japan as it's the next hot jdm car for amateur racing and gymkhana.
Try and spec any other car with this kind of equipment and see what the price is. I wish car reviewers would stop comparing it to VW UP! Its a different class and segment to the VW. The Fiesta ST is also very different and if you want the ST with a similar spec your looking at 23k in the UK. Ive checked them all out and test drove them and I've ordered the Swift Sport.
In my country Swift Sport has same price as entry level Golf, So driving pleasure, good quality, fully equipt for same price for Golf isnt expensive for me
I have the previous generation Swift Sport 1.6 lt NA.150,000 k. NOT A SINGLE FUCKIN’ FAULT. NONE!!! It’s so nimble, it handles like a go kart on steroids! In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, “It drives like a supercar, but at half the speed!”. That says a lot about a car that everyone can actually afford to buy and run. A car that you can rely on everyday and gives a smile every time you turn a corner!!
I usually like small sports hatches, but for this, the weight, damping, and a somewhat funky interior are the main USP´s. The exterior has become less iconic with some rather large front wheel overhangs resulting in a heavy nose profile. The cruise control with lane assist is really not needed for this kind of car - A slightly lower entry price without that option would have been preferable and perhaps 10 HP more instead. Neither the UP nor this looks particularly cool - but If Matt says it is fun to drive then it is an important part of it.
Really lovable car this. Simple, affordable, reliable fun. There aren't that many cars now which are like it, which for me makes it even more appealing.
Had my 2011 non sport since new It's got 210k km on it Driven rain, sun, hail, dust storm Had frequent times it would go 40k on same oil filter and fluid, would run down to a litre sometimes Now I treat it super well, put potenza re003 on it with better wheels
I test drive one of these for 24 hours. They are unbelievably fun to drive. I would have bought one if it wasn't for those horribly narrow seats. As an average sized Australian, my legs sat more on the bolsters than between them, and the side bolsters dug into my back. Those seats were definitely designed for small Japanese people without giving much thought to anyone of even moderate size. I also found my size 13 foot would hit the footrest when using the clutch. I found myself having to adjust how I placed my foot on the clutch pedal. I would have also preferred a digital speed readout in between the dials instead of useless graphical readouts of boost/torque, acceleration/braking, etc. The Australian version has a speedometer which goes from 0-260 so the lines are crammed so close together its hard to easily read your speed at a glance. Finally, I get that it's a small car, but a centre console armrest would have been appreciated. You don't notice it at first but when cruising for any length of time, not being able to rest your arm anywhere gets annoying. Those gripes aside, this is an insanely fun car. I could live without the digital speedo and armrest. I hope in future models they make the seats more comfortable and I'll buy one in a heartbeat!
Why moan about the price. To spec other similar cars to the same specs as the Swift Sport will cost much more. I was going for the Seat Ibiza FR but to spec that to a similar level as the sport takes it over the £20,000 mark. I'll be buying the Suzuki.
Almost perfect little sports car.. Only thing I would probably do to it if I ever got one would be a chip to get a bit more power and a custom exhaust that produces at least some sporty sound..
In 2018, James May in an interview on u tube said the swift was his favourite normal car and that Suzuki was the most underrated car brand. He went on to say that his mom was on her 4th Suzuki now! If required i can send link.
The equipment list has almost everything standard that's why the price is more. Soft touch plastics in hotter countries like mine don't hold up very well sometimes.
Just had a massive price cut £1500 off plus will be a promotion with a extra 750 dealer deposit taking price down to £15750 which seems bang on the money. Was told by my dealer they were not happy when they heard the price and they put pressure on Suzuki to do something as some dealers had ordered in quite a few demo cars. Dont quote me but hearing around £210-230 a month with same deposit
Suzukis Swift in Australia are made in Japan not in India! Due to quality issues in the past, only Baleno is imported from I ndia to Australia, but this model is not very popular here in Australia, Swift is everywhere!
Never thought anything great about Suzuki cars until I checked this video as our roads are literally crammed by Maruti suzukis. Will definitely think positive about Suzuki cars from now.
Got one in Champion Yellow. Not a true hatch but can keep up with more powerful cars around the mountain passes here. Even beat them. I had the 32 as well. I miss the high rev nature of that one. Will buy the SSS until they don't make it any more. Last thing to add. Absolutely fun to floor it around roundabouts with traction control switched off 😉
hi brian! i just sold my 31, was about to buy the 32 but the price difference is not as big, so 33 is also an option. i'd say that the latest model is better looking, with some newer technology, turbo vs n/a. what would you choose knowing them both?
@@h0tdish Definitely the 33. I loved how high the 32 could rev. I took it to 7000rpm each day I drove it. Super reliable engine. The 33 of course got more torque. I chased my friend around Franschhoek Pass (Google it) in his 32. Downhill that 32 was super quick but when we turned around it was mostly uphill. The 32 could not keep up of course. You get a tad more bells and whistles of course.
Guys! Matt and everyone at the comments! You've all missed a Gem here, this car in fact isn't 0-60 in 8.1, Suzuki lied about the figures, it's actually 7.1 seconds and doesn't weigh 975kg but 945kg and on top of that, many manufacturers have come forward and have made parts for this vehicle to take it to around 190-250hp without much messing around with straight bolt on mods. This car now is worth around 12-13k and for what you're getting is a car that has been understated by Suzuki in the weight and performance department and you are literally buying a car full of performance for the money. When this car is modified with stage 1 entry mods at 190hp, this car will get to 60 in 5.5 seconds same as a Yaris GR4 for fraction of the price.
I cannot get my head around the massive price increase. £18K is close to some cars with much nicer interiors and more performance. I can't account for driving style, but as a daily driver my previous generation Swift Sport with the 1.6 averages 41mpg as a daily.
the rear looks really nice imo. And I'm surprised that it comes with Continental Sport Contact 5 as on this car. that is an expensive and really good tyre.
Great review. 😊 I disagree that it is not a car for commuting. Actually the old swift sport does that really well. Easy around town and plenty of power and economy on the larger roads.
Ive driven it, and id rather have a lot of other cars tbh, the old one was stiffer and IT WAS MORE FUN TO WRING ITS NECK!!! Sure turbo's are awesome for daily driving and fuel economy (I drive a 1.8T golf Gti) But turbo's, especially small ones ruin the experience when you HAVE to short shift to stay in the powerband... A turbo should NEVER strangle an engine...
little bit more focus on front and rear lights for every car would be great. not one channel is looking in stuff like this. but for me its pretty important.
Happy owner of an SSS, I enjoy its low weight, very flexible motor with a generous torque, driving smoothness, good soundproofing, maneuverability, comfort/road-handling ratio, habitability and plethora of equipment. However I blame this car for : * No digital speedometer !! (especially since it offers a lot of other useless informations) * Cannot automatically fold mirrors from the outside * Mostly for a sport car, the silhouette should be lower, as well as the ground clearance (16 inch rims would help) * I would prefer a more inclined windshield, wider glazed surfaces, lower waistline, less ostentatious style (as on the Up Gti, prettier although 1 foot smaller) * The first gear is really too short * Ridiculous horn, especially considering its aggressive look : imagine Schwartzy speaking with Omer Simpson's voice ;-) * A sliding rear seat (as on my old ForFour) would be a very good idea
Where did you get that information. That would be the first time ever that suzukie uses wheelpiwer iso crankpower. All manufacturers use the engine power @ crank
i wish more manufacturers would make these. These are sporty but the power is still low enough for young drivers to get it insured. The polo gti for example takes it a bit too far in my opinion
So iv found one for 10,900 and iv got a budget of like 14k and I'm not actually on the road yet I'm planning to get one in like 2022 when it should be cheaper more available in second hand and I will be able to get better insurance and il keep a car on the road for the first year to get a better claim as many people do. I just see it as the only answer to owning something fun and fast while it still being new and affordable and reliable.
Thank you so much for this video! Showing us the rpm for highway cruising in the 6sp manual just answered a question I’ve been roaming the internet for months now to try and solve :D you are a legend!
Always loved the Swift Sport. I used to own a Lupo GTI back in the early 2000s and I suspect the Swift is one of the few current cars that could match that thing WRT fun and everyday practicality. Plus the Suzuki is most certainly more affordable than the Lupo, which was quite dear. But hey... when I sold it on (which I regret today), people were cueing up to take it off me.

I've driven the GL (base) and the Sport one and it's like night and day. The base is boring to drive, luckily I was able to get me the Sport one, but as it is a direct injected turbocharged car I won't drive it every day, will keep using my older car as it is port injection and won't suffer from clogged intake valves. Of course, there are ways to delay the unavoidable but that is another topic that isn't discussed here.

My car uses 10 liters of fuel every 100km if I am really light on the throttle and if the conditions are perfect, otherwise am I driving at around 12liters/100km
My other car however is an original volvo 945 polar ftt, it is easy to drive, quiet and insanely comfortable. I freaking love that car
I still have my 93 SWIFT GT. Still runs great! I would love this new version. But unfortunately for me,Suzuki no longer sells cars in the USA. And it's becoming very difficult to even get parts for the 93!
Anything looks better than a Vw Up GTI
President fake wrong
Sorry, i don't understand why i'm fake. I'm the real me, i guarantee for that.
Nah, UP is beautiful, you just don't like it
+Iacuzzi Facundo Well, yeah, that's how it works. Same can be said on the other side *nah, UP looks awful, you just like it*. Some people like it some don't.
How about nissan juke?
A very good car. Would like to have one
Swift is a class above a Vw Up, in every aspect. The Up looks like a refrigerator, especially in white. In the smallest class i will choose the Kia Picanto.
'Refrigerator' remark got me in splits for some reason 😃.
It's like a Miata on a budget low power good handling and a huge smile while driving
Did you get it in the end? What's it like on day to day running?
In my country Swift Sport has same price as entry level Golf,
So driving pleasure, good quality, fully equipt for same price for Golf isnt expensive for me
The new Suzuki Swift Sport actually has a 0-60 of 7.5 seconds. Suzuki is understating the specs of their cars again.
Manufacturers sometimes do that - understating performance figures so eventual owners dont get shafted by insurance
Had my 2011 non sport since new
It's got 210k km on it
Driven rain, sun, hail, dust storm
Had frequent times it would go 40k on same oil filter and fluid, would run down to a litre sometimes
Now I treat it super well, put potenza re003 on it with better wheels
Update
@@kitanyaedward6722 275km still runs mint
Your comments are detailed and very informative. I agree with you about the speedometer range.😅 Still, the Suzuki Swift is a really light and fun car!
I live in Australia and have the 1 ltr turbo and it's a little beast I love it
I had the 2014 model and loved it!
Why moan about the price. To spec other similar cars to the same specs as the Swift Sport will cost much more. I was going for the Seat Ibiza FR but to spec that to a similar level as the sport takes it over the £20,000 mark. I'll be buying the Suzuki.
Best car presenter by miles, really enjoyed this Matt
Best thing about it is the reliability.
Almost perfect little sports car.. Only thing I would probably do to it if I ever got one would be a chip to get a bit more power and a custom exhaust that produces at least some sporty sound..
Looking at this one for my first car. I’ve fallen in love with it lol.
Love you too
I wouldn't get a sports for your first car just get the cheaper standard swift I've got one and it's mint
Mustang mufc yeah that’s what I was thinking of getting. There aren’t as many videos about the standard one though.
@@naznimation if you haven't got one still the 1.0 Boosterjet engine is a very good car which is faster the the standard engine
There's nothing like a good drive through the Wicklow mountains! Nice to see familiar spots.
The Dublin/Wicklow mountains look great in the footage. Always a fun (if sometimes very bouncy) drive!
Im from india... Literally chilled you review a car from my country... majority of the cars you show cannot be seen here😑😑😨
It would be an instant buy from me if it ever launched here
Suzukis Swift in Australia are made in Japan not in India!
@@jeanvonbarberode2377 yes Suzuki is a japanese..it tie up with maruti in india
Only watch the video because of Matt. Not interested in this car but know the review will be top notch! 👌🏻
@@brianjacobs8839thanks for the opinion! Had a chance meanwhile to drive the 32, very little, seems that the 33 is the way to go
Brexit
Like what?
Vincent De Alwetende fiesta st
Ahmed Rahi Exactly.
Lol in the Netherlands it is even more expensive 21000 pounds
My 2014 GT86 with 2l engine is averaging 32mpg in 4 years - turbo really drink into the fuel economy in real world
the rear looks really nice imo. And I'm surprised that it comes with Continental Sport Contact 5 as on this car. that is an expensive and really good tyre.
They have always done that , Old 1.6 came with SportContact 3s.
I live in the states and cant buy like half the cars he reviews but I still watch these reviews habitually lol
Mat, are you serious? You compare a Swift with a Vw Up? Come on, you joking? Swift is in the same class as a Vw Polo. Still prefer a Swift anyday!
little bit more focus on front and rear lights for every car would be great. not one channel is looking in stuff like this. but for me its pretty important.
My Wagon R is getting fixed so they loaned me this car in Japan. Man, this car has torque! I can feel the G's when I accelerate! Awesome car!
Happy owner of an SSS, I enjoy its low weight, very flexible motor with a generous torque, driving smoothness, good soundproofing, maneuverability, comfort/road-handling ratio, habitability and plethora of equipment.
However I blame this car for :
* No digital speedometer !! (especially since it offers a lot of other useless informations)
* Cannot automatically fold mirrors from the outside
* Mostly for a sport car, the silhouette should be lower, as well as the ground clearance (16 inch rims would help)
* I would prefer a more inclined windshield, wider glazed surfaces, lower waistline, less ostentatious style (as on the Up Gti, prettier although 1 foot smaller)
* The first gear is really too short
* Ridiculous horn, especially considering its aggressive look : imagine Schwartzy speaking with Omer Simpson's voice ;-)
* A sliding rear seat (as on my old ForFour) would be a very good idea
I prefer the older design from about 6 years ago, but the Suzuki Swift has always been one of my favorite everyday cars.
(Correction: 6 years ago.)
This car actually has 163 HP (120 KW). The 140 horsepower that Suzuki have stated is the 'at the wheels' figure.
Where did you get that information. That would be the first time ever that suzukie uses wheelpiwer iso crankpower. All manufacturers use the engine power @ crank
That actually looks fantastic
i wish more manufacturers would make these. These are sporty but the power is still low enough for young drivers to get it insured. The polo gti for example takes it a bit too far in my opinion
I actually love this car its so cute
So iv found one for 10,900 and iv got a budget of like 14k and I'm not actually on the road yet I'm planning to get one in like 2022 when it should be cheaper more available in second hand and I will be able to get better insurance and il keep a car on the road for the first year to get a better claim as many people do. I just see it as the only answer to owning something fun and fast while it still being new and affordable and reliable.
Is it only me, or it sounds like he is saying Swiss Sport? :)

I own the new 2019 swift sport and it is amazing! Plenty of room fast fun and all tech u need. Try that in a fiesta st and the price will go waaaaaaaay up.Not even that fun :)
What's it like on fuel, actual figures around town? Thanks

I have the 2007 model, and its a fantastic car! Made in japan😜
Cash Facts you can always tell from the cheap imitations and lack of detailing... Made in India :)
Some swifts were also made in Hungary. I'm not sure if they still make them there, though, but I know the Vitara is made in Hungary.
All euro spec Swifts are built in Hungary, as with the Vitara and S Cross.
Vitara is made in india man
TECHNO SAHJAD Go do some research. The current Vitara is assembled in Hungary with others being produced in China. The previous generation Vitara (known as the Grand Vitara was made in Japan) Vitara's have never been made in India.

the steering wheel may resemble that of an Audi...a tiny bit
Because of the aggressive and slanted down headlights coupled with the Daytime running lights.

Its amazing, Japan technology always the best and reliable
We need a drag race between the swift sport and the up gti.
Do more reviews in Ireland Matt! Was wondering why it looked so familiar 😅🇮🇪
Better than mini cooper Bmw and Mercedes Benz . Suzuki Swift makes lot of sense and rocks
That's just because you are an Indian
